Abstract
In order to investigate maternal attitude toward infant feeding, a survey was performed for 1 month from June 1, 1981. The population subjected to survey was 254 mothers from delivery rooms and maternal-child health centers in Chonnam University Hospital and Kwang ju Christian Hospital.
The results were summarized as follows:
1. Sixty three percent of the subjects was in the age between 25 to 29 years, and 44.5 percent was high school graduates. Working women were 16.9 percent, and 59.8 percent was multipara.
2. The percentage of breast feeding was 72.8 percent, artificial feeding was 20.5 percent, and mixed feeding was 6.7 percent. The choice between the breast or artificial feedings was made in the large part by mother¢¥s own will.
3. The most frequent reason for breast feeding choice was "it¢¥s best for the baby", and the reason for artificial feeding choice was mother¢¥s shortage in breast milk secretion.
4. Factors influencing the methods of infant feeding were found to be mother¢¥s occupation, family structure and educational level.
